Heres my schematic, now which marstran?

Post by iknowjohnny »

This schematic my not be 100% accurate, but it's close. One difference is that for now at least i have a 100/100uf in place of the main cap can. Which marstran OT would be best. And if more than one would be good depending on taste, which ones and how would they differ? Thanks.

Is that the same as the 784-128 aside from the 128's 100v tap? And what is that anyways?

5H 100ma is plenty for a 50 watt Marshall.
That was also used on the 100 w amps.

Not sure why you don't just build the 2204 JCM800 amp?

Yours is very close to that amp design.

Are you trying for more gain?

The 2204 also has two can caps of 50/50uF.

Why the 150K bias splitters instead of the 220K?

No, i'm just trying to build a similar amp that has more complexity and fuller tone thats more to my liking than an 800. i have already succeeded, but from that point on i just don't want to stop fiddling with it for the joy of the hunt for that magic tone you know you probably will never get. But i do find little things that help improve it now and then and it just keeps getting better. So it's hard to stop knowing it CAN be better. And i enjoy twiddling with it.

Yes it can be both fun and frustrating but that's how you learn.

Absolutely. My brain just doesn't work in the same way as with most tech people. Numbers and all that just go in one ear and out the other and i have a hard time making sense of it. But i have ears that i think are good, and combined with the help i've gotten here and a few other places i've been able to get by and make my amps sound what i feel is better than the many amps i've owned over the years. Custom tone the way i want it and a lot of fun to boot.....wish i had started this years ago !
