Re: What iron for RXES?
The dent is there alright and seems like every tranny I get has something smashed on lately. I have not opened it up. To me it doesn't seem as large as on the picture.
Tom those boards are ughly to me but perfect this prototype amp and easy to wire up with the extra tangs. I could have put eyelets or turrets in the center holes if needed.

Re: What iron for RXES?
I read an interview with Brad somewhere, my memory serves it was a rocket that he had Z build.
Mark i owned an RXES for a year or so, sold it to a brother on the Z page. MAn that amp has some amazing mojo, huge tone, massively clean and loud. 45 watts at least! Thru my old greenback quad and with my ES137 it was emotional. Way cool.
It left me tho, due in part to its loudness and cleanness, more tho that it was kinda that one great tone, the rest was just ok.
It has such an explosive hard to contain the grin character that is addictive, just couldnt find a use for it in the real world.

Re: What iron for RXES?
Don,
Thanks for the report I plan to build one unless I can find one on the cheap. Man Z-talk has guys selling their RT 66 for $850 now thats cheap for a great amp. But the economy has hit many people so hard.

Re: What iron for RXES?
Okay still working trying to get the components figured out for this the RXES anyone know the values of the pots just send a schematic or layout too
Re: What iron for RXES?
the bass and treb pots are both 250kb, the mid is 25kb, the vol is 1ma. the treb pot is wired weird too---the treb cap goes to lug 2 and the output to the vol is from lug 3 (just the reversal of the normal way you see it blackface/silverface amps and others). rhM Fowler wrote:Okay still working trying to get the components figured out for this the RXES anyone know the values of the pots just send a schematic or layout too

Re: What iron for RXES?
I like these for any sort of build. $3.95 at Apex Jr. and $6.00 at Ted Weber. Where I buy them depends on what else is included in the order, as there is always the shipping charge to consider as part of the cost.Structo wrote:Man, I got to get me some of those tag boards.![]()
Those look great for prototyping, heck, they look good enough to build any map with.
I've stopped buying expensive custom made boards. IMO, they add very little value to an amateur homebrew. In a commercial production environment, I'd probably use a proper board, not this sort of generic.
Re: What iron for RXES?
If you google it, you can find a couple of downloads here and there (hint: check geofex.com). There are some gut shots around of various Z amps. However, out of respect for Dr. Z, schematics are not posted since his amps are in production. The Stangray, MAZ, Mini-Z, and a few others are well documented. Our discussion here is purely academic since the Stangray and RxES share some sonic properties and other similarities in common with the Rocket.

Dynaman,
Depending on which model your interested in there probably is information already posted let me know.

Re: What iron for RXES?
are the holes down the middle of the tag board plated holes (that you can solder to) or just plain old holes in the fiberglass?
I considered using these kinds of boards for my low-watt desktop amp builds. Would cut a coupla bux in cost and probably be just as easy to build as turrets, maybe easier. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be just as reliable.

Re: What iron for RXES?
AES also has some different tag boards.
They have this one which I was going to buy but they were out of them at the time I ordered.
With turrets.

Plus blank ones and the one like Apex has but they want $8.95 for it.....

Don't let that smoke out!

Thats where I got my boards from Tom.
Krash yes the center are plated so you can solder to them as well.

Re: What iron for RXES?
sweet. I will order a few and see how they work out. The Littlerock on the bench is getting a perf turret board from AES. $10, I'll chop the end off of it, price is right and I like the flexibility since I can pop a new turret in there wherever I need one.
