Hi Dogears,

Very good question! I don't know an answer but there was a tread on the Ampage a few months back on this subject. I remember that it is possible to speed up a pots taper with a resistor across two lugs but more things change when you do this, so it is not always an option.

The only solution I have right now is to use linear pots instead of log if a taper is too slow, but you already knew that....
I would be very interested in these 30% taper pots too.

Hi Scott and Jelle,

This is a WAG I think but I believe Clarostat will make anything you want if you buy enough. Is there enough horsepower in the combined membership here to place an order for 1000 each of a couple of values explicit to guitar amps?

I got a couple of hundred I can pledge to the cause. It would take one of us to administer the thing of course. (Not volunteering) Sale at cost plus handleing and re-imbursment of the investors. That sort of thing?

Probably nuts.

Westlabs does it.

Hey Scott (I owe you a call, I will return it), I got some CTS 30% 1 Meg pots many years ago (when I built the first few amps) from someone who'd placed a speacial order. Contact info is: <cottonamps@aol.com> Don't know if he had any 250Ks or not, but yes, old Dumbles had old pots and old pots were 30%. :) [BTW, CTS will make special orders if you need enough of them]

Otherwise, you can get some from Ted Weber, his are not CTS though, but all the audio pots are 30%:

Thanks Gil! Ya know, I had my bud measure his Dumble up again today and this time we checked tapers. 30%. I like that since it appeals to my sense of fung shai.

Thanks again... Weber it is!

OK, you guys are doing it to me again. What exactly does "30% pot" mean? I can't imagine you are cutting your reefer with 70% oregano or something.
Do you mean the wiper gives 30% signal at mid-point or... :?:
And, furthermore Norton, what would be the benefit?

Yep - it refers to the percentage of resistance at the pot midpoint. A "pure log pot" would be a 10% taper.

Do the 30% taper pots make the lower range more useable ?
