If you are putting an Overdrive section in, as I did,(not true SSS, but a good addition) you might consider doing as I did and alternate between reverb and OD with relays (1 in and 1 out). That way the reverb doesn't spoil the OD tone.

Thx, I hadn't thought of that. I do like reverb on the OD but coming before the OD might be an issue.
Just 'cause you asked:
I'd build it without the OD and reverb first, but leaving all options open. Keep it simple and get the basic structure and tone of the SSS the way you want it. Then add the OD and reverb. I am not a fan of "springs", so if it were mine, I'd opt for the built in D'lator instead of 'verb. I think the OD is a good idea, though.

For driver value starting point, take a look at the fender super twin, it uses a 12AT7 for the driver.
I am sure that a number of tubes could be used for the driver. Depends one what the output tubes need for a grid swing to fully tickle them into submission . 12AT7 is a good choice, wide BW and decent current capability.
A 2400 ohm load p/p tranny with 600V will get a quad of KT88 to near 200W. Someday when I have time, I am going to build a Megoid for myself .

I think this is the first SSS schematic I've seen that has the step filters. Very Cool Bob. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get this info, and what kind of unsavory services did you have to render??

Thx Gary. I'll look at the super twin. I'll be running 6 x 6L6s on this one. Peavey claims 160 watts, plenty for me.

I actually searched months ago and found these posted here. I forget who posted them but they look like excellent work. The final will most likely have fewer steps, 7-8.

I looked over the SVT schematic,I think it may be because the driver is direct coupled with no DC blocking cap. There would be a +DC voltage on the cathode so the -300 is to produce a - potential on the power tube grids.
I'm not really up on why direct coupled would be better than having a cap.
