18 Watt Baby Trainwreck combo pics

Post by rfgordon »

Here's my first implementation of Dana's VVR3. I scaled the power tubes and PI. At the risk of offending the purists, I did put a master volume on it, so the client can get it down to non-wife-nagging levels.

I've used Matt's transformers, from musicalpowersupplies.com, which seem to work very well for low powered amps.

Also, I used the new progressive toggle switch from CEDist, so I get standby and power on one switch. Very nice, and saves a couple bucks per amp.

The faceplate is on the way, done by www.designyourowncard.com as a laser etched aluminum sign (ya gotta drill your own holes).

The cab will house either a Tone Tubby or a Cannibis Rex, depending on which he likes best.

I've also added a shot of the head cab for a straight up Rocket w/ VVR that I will start soon for another client. I dig the surf green.

What primary impedance have you used? I am in a mind to do a combo using a half powered liverpool OR 6V6's in an express. I have a deluxe style OT that i had heyboer do for me, 8 and a half K, with 4 8 and 16 out. Its rated at 25 watts. So im on the fence which way to go.
I really dig what the liverpool does with 2 tubes pulled, tho my mates express doesnt have the volume rise on the guitar to amp that the liverpool does.
GG mentioned that when i had built my pool, but i didnt thing so at the time, but it does get much louder using the guitars volume rather than gainier.
Still a great tone with the pool.

It looks great.
Are you really pleased with the transformers? I have some spare ones from Matt waiting for a good idea like this.

Any sound clips?

cheers

Thank y'all for your kind words.

The primary I'm using is 8k. This is Matt's 20 watt OT, so it's nice and clear with this amp.

As for clips, none at this point. When Burley Maple broke up, I lost the use of the recorder. I have a new gadget, but I haven't had the chance to get it set up to interface with my computer.
