My Express hits the (sorta) big time

Post by Ron Worley »

I built an Express for a mate in the UK, and a new member here near him was looking for one to use on his band's new album. I hooked them up and they worked out an arrangement for the amp to be used on the recording. The group has 3 guitars, all Matamp players, and they were looking for something sonically different for the mix.

The band is called The Black Spiders (http://www.theblackspiders.com/), a hard rock outfit out of the Midland of England. Super nice guys. Here are some very quick demos on YouTube of the amp in action:

Pretty cool seeing one of your creations actually make music! These guys are coming over to play the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, TX this spring, I think I'll head down to check them out. Thanks Mark for the clips!

Mark-

they were private, but I was told that they were made public. Sounds like Andy could see them, not sure what the issue is......

Try these. The ones Ron Posted were set as Private, in other words you need to create an account on YouTube before they work.

For those that don't have such a thing, these should work

First Up, His Gordon Smith.

Then His Les Paul

Then his Strat

And Finally his SG Special with P90s (Obviously)

that sounds good

Post by breakfastbuddy »

that sounds good , maybe more of a attack with the P90 . so with hummbukers its maybe a good idea to decrease the drop resistor from 150K to 56K :)

Great job Ron! The P90 clip has some great punch! I like the twang and snap on the Strat clip as well. Congratulations.

Thanks guys. This amp still has the stock JJ preamp tubes that I supplied it with. I think that with the right NOS preamp valves (Tungsram), it would sound better. Also the digital camera mic compression does not exactly do it much justice.

It does however have NOS Seimens RFT EL-34s in it, which helps.

Well there is some more news to come Ron.

Took you at your word and decided to rekindle a very old friendship today.
The Amp and I are off to see Bernie at his place in a couple of weeks time.
With any luck, Mickie may be on hand as well, so who knows?

And that would be Bernie Marsden and Mickie Moody, the original guitarists for Whitesnake....

Too cool Rob, now if we can get Gary Moore to play the thing!
