Bright switch on D'Lite

I have a tweaked DLite 44 w/ a Dumbleator. Great amp and I get amazing tone. However I've always felt the clean channel needed the bright switch ON and the lead channel, bright switch OFF.
Is it possible to get rid of the bright switch on the lead channel?

I know very little what's going on inside a tube amp but I've built lots of pedals and chang pickups etc so i know how to use a soldering iron.
I thought if it's just to unsolder a wire or something...

The amp is set up with a bright, OD and PAB switch on front.
Relays on OD and PAB, switchable via the two button footswitch.

I've done it to one of my amps but added a 3rd relay for the Bright switch. Then I put a "link" switch on the back so I can either have the Bright always on or linked to turn off when OD is turned on.

There was some fairly recent discussion about this and I think Tony (Talbany) may have posted a schem or layout that does this without adding another relay...

So no it's not possible to just snap of a wire or something to get rid of the bright on the lead channel?

No, that is not possible.

The bright switch connects a small capacitor across the hot & send on the volume pot. It is not specific to clean or OD, it is a part of the circuit that is common to both.

Have you looked at any of the schematics published here for the ODS?

You can have a relay that disconnects when the relay for the OD is active. If you do a search there are quite a few people who have done it, and commented on it.

Thanks a lot! I just had to check. Guess I need to send it to Cougar/Mystic in case I want it updated.

I get great cleans with the bright switch on. On the lead the same settings is a bit thin and harsh. In off position it's a lot fatter.

Any other way around this? Possible to get a thicker tone in any way. non HRM, Skyliner, Handful of Blues type of tweak.

The relay (or some other switching) approach is the only way to accomplish what you want. I have done that on 2 of my builds and I prefer it as well.

The higher you turn the clean volume up the less effect the bright cap will have.

You must have the .01uf midcap to get those RF tones.....

As for the bright cap, all my amps have a relay since I like it like you!! As far as I know, Gary and I made that a standard feature/option on the first Glaswerks. First production amp to boast that. Although I think Krinard had custom wired a few of his amps that way before that. Only way to fly IMO.

What speakers are you using? I have found that I do not like the brite on in OD mode, ever...I have also found that the speakers make a huge difference upon whether or not brite is required for clean tones. The position of the volume control also plays a big role in the amount of brite that is applied: helps one to find a compromise between clean and OD.

One of the reasons I like the seperate master volumes instead of the ratio/master configuration is you're able to put a different bright cap on the master. I use a larger bright cap on the clean master, 47pF typically, than the OD master, 22pF or none typically.

If you have a single master and a ratio control, then the best option is the relay.

Here's more or less how I set mine up. I'm using a 212 w old Celestion G12-65's. With the DLite it's always a LP or a Tele. Never got it to work with a Strat. As you can see, several bright switches on the DLator.

Here you go!!.. Very simple mod and easily reverse able gotta have the relay though.....All my personal amps wired this way works great..
