Dynaco Mark III w/ Dumble preamp

Post by BobW »

I have a Dynaco MK III that I used to use, years ago, as a power section to a Princeton Reverb + cab. It has since been sitting idle in my shop for years. I know the amp has a cathodyne inverter feeding 2 KT88s, but am considering to build a skyliner preamp. Does anyone have any guess how this would sound? HAD didn't use this type of inverter, but am still curious enough to build the preamp. The preamp B+, heaters, etc are readily available from the preamp octal input on the Dynaco, and can easily get 200 VDC on the preamp plates. What say ye, does this seem like a worthwhile effort?

*Last min edit, I decided to build the entire board, just in case doesn't sound good. This gives me the option to build another ODS or HRM.

I would do an HRM w/Skyliner Stack...Ive done this before as a stand alone preamp and worked better for me than the Non HRM No idea how the cathodyne would sound.. My guess would be crunchy... Good Luck!!
