HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
Clips Of my D-clone (Hrm Bluesmaster,Skyline EQ.)
Fender Twin power trafo Tone-master Output trafo
Please comment on how they sound? I wasn't going for the Robben Sound
Kind of a Warren Haynes'ish type Fusion Tone.
I'm playing on a Strat with under-wound pup's,There is No D-later in the loop but there is a Electro Harmonix Holy Grail (the one with 1 knob 1 switch)
set on the plate setting. Also I am using an old Mesa Boogie Labeled EVm-12-L in a closed back Cab. Mic'd with an old AKG-D-320 A into a Line 6 Toneport with all the models bypassed into MixCraft ver.4.0

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
Is this a Ceriatone BM?
Have you modded it or is it stock?
I really liked the clean tone.
If that was you on the YouTube clip, I liked that even with the clipping of the mic.
On the clips here that you posted the OD tone seemed to have an overriding fuzz type tone to it that I didn't care for.
Do you have your OD trimmer set quite high?
No offense is meant, just trying to be honest with what I am hearing, the playing was very respectable it was the OD tone that didn't do much for me.
I think if you dial it down a bit on the distortion, it would bring better clarity to the notes.

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
Yes- it is a Ceriatone HRM BM it is a variation -
The OD is voiced more like the standard HRM. The trimmer is set at 9 o'clock but the ratio/drive is set high - It does sound a lot better in person - my recording set up is humble...
When I set the ratio/drive low with the trimmer set low , I do get better note separation and more of a blooming sound- I am new to this kind of overdrive so I am still learning as I go along.
In the Youtube clip I am not using the OD of the amp I am using a pedal instead (Boss OD-1) but the PAB was on when I used OD in these clips and In the YouTube Vid.
Thanks for your honesty, I do appreciate constructive criticism

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
Yes, the recording equipment can surely change things.
I have not been able to capture what my amp sounds like with the junk I have.
I borrowed a SM57 one time because I thought that would work well to record with
Made my amp sound like a kazoo when I played it back.
I know it was either me or the software I was using at the time, so I know how tough it can be to capture the true tone of an amp.
Have you tried adjusting the phase inverter trimmer?
That can really help in the sustain and bloom of notes.
I didn't really think it could matter that much until I started messing around with it.
Tony told me how to do it and I think it helped my amp.

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
I don't have a scope to mess with the phase inverter.
The Mic I have is good but I think the interface that I am using is effecting tone. I don't have a Mic preamp either anymore and that has been frustrating to keep the levels up when monitoring sound.
I think I am gonna try a few other speakers,I have a g-12-65 and a g-12-85 in a 2x12 ported cab.
Has anyone ever tried an EvM-12-L
with a G-12-65? Can I get good results blending speakers?

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
The first clean clip sounds very good and "correct". I agree that the last OD with mid & deep off sounds best. From the clip, it sounds a little brittle on the OD high end for me. I am surprised that I didn't like the mid boosted clip better with a Strat. You may achieve a more desirable OD tone by goosing the pre OD trimmer closer to noon(or past) from 9 o'clock. My HRM is not a bluesmaster but, best OD tones with mine were attained with my trimmer between 22k to 25k from ground(I believe that was on advice from dogears). Get a voltmeter in there rather than eyeballing it. Then adjust the front panel OD drive to taste.
Some OD tone setting advice/discussion here:
https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=4515
Based on the cleans, you should have no trouble getting the amp where you want it eventually. Mine took quite a while to play nice with my Strat - which has low output pickups as well.
Some nice playing in the youtube clip!
Happy tweaking!

I don't have any 12-65's but I have two EVM 12L's in an open back 2 x 12.
I really like these speakers but I would like to hear them in a better cab.
I think Doveman is trying the mix you mentioned right now.
I was wrong he has a 12-65 and a Scumback M75-LHDC-65 together.

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
Congrats on the amp.
The clean tone is excellent, but the OD IMHO is not really hitting what I'd expect from a Dumble type amp. There's too much OD on the high end, and not enough in the low mids. If this is the tone you're after, then great, but it doesn't hit the Warren/fat OD tone.

Yes to check where the OD trimmer is at, measure the resistance from the wiper to ground.
20K-30K is a range I see mentioned here a lot.

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
No offense, but with cleans like that (especially with the delay) who needs an OD channel?
I am no expert, but with the HRM I believe the prefered way to run the OD channel is to always use the PAB due to the second set of tone controls. I've even come across some threads where you can wire your relay to switch channels and the PAB with the same flick.

Re: HRM BluesMaster Skyliner
Thanks, Yeah I know. I was thinking of getting another one built without the OD. In place of the OD I was thinking of getting Verb instead, also a built in d-lator.Of course there would have to be some holes punched for some more tubes too. Also It would be cool too make it a 150 watter and run like 6550's in it or something. Getting a 100 watter was a very good decision with this amp, tons of clean headroom.
