Royer R121 Mic, Full Rack, and Glaswerks Deluxe OD Sample

Post by dogears »

Hot off the presses. Glaswerks Deluxe (Skyline, high plate load, Fender style iron, 100W, big master bright cap) into G1265. Full rack interfaced with 6 foot cables (Bludo Loop-a-lator, TC2290, Sound Sculpture Switchblade, Eventide Eclipse in parallel), Carruthers CSA guitar, bridge humbucker. Royer R121 mic about 2 inches back from speaker. Touch of Waves IR verb panned right in mix.

Sounds great as always. I tried the big bright cap and long loop cables, up to 20 feet and it was still ice pick treble, never smooth like this clip.

Love the playing, nice phrasing, breathes well and flows beautifuly. 8)

I can't stop listening to this clip! Especially those high notes are very addicting...

BTW, what kind of cable is best from amp to loop?

Thanks

What a difference the Royer makes Huh!! clear as a bell..Scott are you running that into a separate Preamp first?...These clips are getting me in the mood to set up my recording bench..I recently picked up Audition 3 and am itching to put some clips together...Bluesmaster's first

Thumbs up! The notes are clear, and the tone is smooth and harmonically rich. Great balance between the low and high notes.

Thanks guys!! I redid the mix. Verb was too heavy and muddying the bass a little.

great clip! wonderful playing, letting the notes really mature and voice!

a quick thought on the bright issue i keep hearing people complain about on new clone amps. Capacitors have a break in point of about 100hrs as well as speakers that take close to 80hrs or more to loosen up and just start to voice. so if your amp is new and the speakers are new and tubes are new, it's going to be bright and bit ice picky.. break them all in and they will naturally smooth and round out as they age. Don't stress get it close and play it play it play it it'll all come together.

Again great clip! Thank you for taking the time to put a quality clip up! The Royer is my go to mic as well it's one of the most natural sounding ways to capture the voice of an amp.
