Weber "Dumble" kit
Ted Weber posted this on his forum as the answer to a request for a Dumble kit.

Weber uses nothing but carbon film resistors and tubular and mica caps. I can't imaging that he can get a reasonable Dumble tone from these using that schematic, but he's been successful selling thousands of kits.

WTF??? I guess I'd have to read the thread for some context, but I can't see how you would get Dumble-like tone out of that circuit. However, I'll reserve judgement until one of YOU fine folks have given it a try.

Normster, just by looking at that, (to me anyways) it`s a plexi on steroids!! I particularly DIG the PLEXI first stage!Normster wrote:WTF??? I don't think many folks really get the Dumble thing. I bet that'll make a really nice amp but not really a Dumble. Of course you'd have to replace many of the cheezy Weber components, resistors and caps especally, trannys and filters should be fine.
Re: Weber "Dumble" kit
Yeah but remember Normster, Bob, and Groove, there's a sucker born every min. If they want to hand out their hard earned cash and expect to sound like Robben Ford, etc., it ain't gonna happen. At least when our amps don't sound right we tweak and re-adjust. Some of these poor guys are gonna be dissapointed and won't have the capability to do anything about it except sell it. my .02

Well if you look cross-eyed through rose colored glasses you can see the lineage. But those values. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet that thing has got to be harsh.
And the bias circuit is downright scary!
The selection of Plate and cathode values are very "unique".
Ok, whose going to step up and build that amp.

Yep, you can be SURE, that that circuit AINT RF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get closer to that RF sound w/my Diaz Classic Twin/modded TS-9 and a custom Tele than my "D" amps!!BobW wrote:Yeah but remember Normster, Bob, and Groove, there's a sucker born every min. Re: Weber "Dumble" kit
I checked out the Weber site but don't see this amp on the list of kits. I for one could be interested. I like "tweaking" the electronics, but don't have a lot of interest in building a chassis or cabinet. What is the price of this kit?

Re: Weber "Dumble" kit
Yeah,
I've been around here a long time,...I doubt there is a schematic on this site I don't have (and some that aren't here). I'd just rather get most of the hardware in one package, then install the electronics/boards, etc. And, at the reasonable prices Weber has for his complete kits, I'd be glad to take one and replace what I don't like.
I'm surprised that someone hasn't put together a kit with the component list and recommended parts that have shown up here. Between Scott, Gary, BobI, and Gil (to name a few,...sorry if I neglected anyone obvious but I've had a few beers), it wouldn't be too hard to make up some boards that would allow a builder to do the one of his choice.
I know a good deal of the fun is in the build,...but there are people who have heard these amps, and would just like a reasonably priced way to get one. They'll (I'll) never sound like Robben, Larry,..etc, but even half deaf, I can tell the difference in sound and feel of the Dumbles and Trainwrecks vs any "commercial" amp I've heard/played.

Re: Weber "Dumble" kit
Same here!!! A Diaz has the BIG sound of a Dumble but not quite the gain, i can attest to that as i BUILT Warren Haynes Specials and other amps for the co back in 2004,( that one has MO gain) it`s taken a long 6 yrs, but i think between ALL the guys here, and those NOT mentioned, the Dumble CODE has been CRACKEDampdoc1 wrote:Yeah,

Re: Weber "Dumble" kit
Weber hasn't completed this kit yet, he's only posted the schem to get interest when it's finally complete.
No doubt something good can be made from it.
