digital reverb with clone ?

Hi,

I'm going to purchase a digital reverb for my clone. I like the one tube reverb very much (Normsters layout) but I would also like different/wider reverbs.
With what units You are happy with Your clones/dumbles ?

It could be pedal or half rack unit. Should I connect it in front of the amp or between pre and power amp ?

I hesitate a little bit to buy used 80's Alesis midiverb or alike because of their aged electrolytics.

Basicly I don't want to mess the sound of my clone, but would like to have good quality reverb (,delay,chorus..).

And also it shouldn't be too expensive

Hi Mat,

I ditched the Tube Reverb in my 75W ODS and now use an Alesis MicorverbIII together with my Dumbleator loop as with my other 100W ODS clone.

This setup sounds much better and is more useful for me. This way I can even have slap delay and delay... hehe

The Alesis sounds quite nice for this and can be had for cheap on ebay.

You might be able to use a Pedal together with a Dumbleator clone, but a studio FX unit is much better IMHO.

I have tube/spring reverb in my ODS Bassman and use digital reverb in my ODS clone (passive loop). I much prefer the digital reverb. As far as the best effect unit, not much to offer since I'm using a cheapo DigiVerb pedal with an even cheaper Arion digital delay pedal. However, I think the tone improves with the digital reverb since it adds just a touch of top end sparkle.

I've joked with Dogears about trying to out-Dumble the man himself by nailing the Robben Ford tone without a TC Electronics effects unit. I'm convinced that much of Robben's top-end lies in the rack unit.

I'm not going to build dumbleator in near future (as much as I would like to have one). I was thinking of the passive loop Normster was mentioning.

Any experiences of the Alesis Picowerb ? Harmony Central does noyt rate it too high. Reverb, delay, chorus, flange, phase, leslie Foot switch would be very nice also.

Normster, did You wire Your loop like in the Hybrid A schem ?

Have to check the e-bay.

Yes, it's hybrid-A style, but I keep the pedal on top of the amp with very short connecting cables.

Well, put me down as another one that prefers digital reverb. I have been using the Microverb in front of my P1X for quite a while, and I'm really happy with it
I especially like the plate and large hall but with the mix down pretty low.

I had a passive effects loop for a while, but it would overload the microverb prettty heavily. It is easier to deal with in front of the amp.

In the d project I have the TUT parallel effects loop built in, but will keep it bypassed until I have the main amp sorted out. And with my slow progress on the cab, that won't happen for a while

I also like hall reverbs but just slightly dialed in. I'm very close to get microverb 4. It has also footswitch option. If I get it I'll experiment in the passive loop and front of the amp - I'll report back after 2 weeks (If I'm lucky enough to get it..)

With the MicorVerbIII you can at least control the amount of signal going into the FX unit thus keeping it from distorting, but the Output of the FX is not enough to drive the PI and Power Amp to satisfying levels. Works for the bedroom player, but nowhere else.

My advice would be to:

build a Dumbleator....

I used the 19" rack enclosure that I salvaged from a Computer Router. I used two flatpack trannys (really cheap).

All in all my Dumbleator did not cost me more than 60 Euro. I will post some pics if I can soon.

A seperate Dumbleator allegedly sounds better than a built in one, since the B+ is seperate from the amps B+.

Hi Mat,

I do not have a layout for the Dumbleator. I usually work from the schematic.

The Powersupply is pretty easy to design. With good filtering, there is no need for a choke btw.
