sorry I forgot to add, it's doing this without tubes.
Re: Ceriatone Transformers experience?
Yes, you'll need the bigger fuse. I've recently built a 50W HRM, but with a 100W mains Tranny, and had to fit a bigger fuse to handle the bigger inrush current.
I've had 3 PT failures on Ceriatone amps over the last few years.

Wow!
Really, that doesn't speak too well of the manufacturer.
Do you know why they failed?
Not big enough current handling?

I'm not sure. In 2 cases, they were JTM45 PT's, and the replacements were a bit bigger (thicker stack), so clearly there was some design or manufacturing issue.
Nik's service in replacing them was excellent (under 48 hours) and I suppose you have to say that he has sold an awful lot of amps, with little negative comment on the net, so I guess I was unlucky.

Re: Ceriatone Transformers experience?
New Transformer is 4 shows old now, I changed the HT fuse to 1A and all is working fine.
Nik suggested not to leave the amp on for 12 Hours. ( But that is hard not to do on some rehearsals or sessions).
My thinking has always been not to power up and down too often as that's when things fail. So I don't during breaks on Shows.
The 50 watt trans should have handled the current draw and heat. It's only running 3 pre-amp and 2 power tubes- and is about twice the size of my Vibrolux's, and puts out way less heat than a AC-30. These amps are 45 years old and the Vibrolux has seen a huge amount of abuse.
The ceriatone 100watter is huge and must weigh another 2kg...
Any suggestions for a OT to suit 100watts? (Marshall or Fender style? ) or is that another thread?

Re: Ceriatone Transformers experience?
Mojo musical supply www.mojotone.com sells Heyboer made iron that is excellent. I wouldn't spend the extra cash on Mercury, especially with what you'll spend on freight.
http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/index.php?cPath=27_48 in Germany has some excellent iron as well, and the freight is (maybe less to oz).
As far as "not leaving an amp on 12 hours", that's silly. A transformer (especially at idle) should be no more than very warm to the touch, and should run days, not hours, without issue. Bad steel, thin wire, or poor winds cause excess heat/burnout in a power transformer. A quality transformer shouldn't have that problem.

Re: Ceriatone Transformers experience?
+1 i have a OTS i got in august 2008 and i run that thing all day with the master way up, ive put both my hands on the trannies when it was still on and the OT was barely even warm while the PT was about the same. Maybe mine just runs cooler? i upgraded the choke to a fender choke which may have helpedFUCHSAUDIO wrote:

It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them
Re: Ceriatone Transformers experience?
I am a newbie but have learned so much. I am ready to build a 50 watt OTS. Which Heyboer transformers from www.mojotone. would be appropriate for a ceriatone 50 OTS?
Thanks
