I honestly don't know. I've never tried 2 1x12's together. Might be an interesting experiment since I have them.

That's where my heads at ... I think two speakers spread things around a bit. I think that two speakers side-by-side or top-and-bottom would get the same effect. Also, one more trip in with the rig but no more weight (bad back). Plus if they are separate, you can always take one when it suits.

I am satisfied that the EVM12L is my speaker for this amp loud ... whether it be one or two. It may be the best at low volumes too. But at lower volumes I also like the G1265 1x12 and the EMI 2x10.

My preference for medium sized gigs, 2 Thiele cabs loaded w/ 12S and a 12L in 100W mode. In a small gig, same setup in 50W mode.

I'd like to know more about the Peavey/Dumble conversion, please?

What was the original cabinet, and how was it converted?

You know that is a pretty cool trick ... I would not mind hearing about that one myself.

I recently built a 2x12 with Greenback G12H 30w and a G12M 25w and for me sounds very good!

Decided to just bite the bullet and get a 2x12 side-by-side cab - loaded with my two EVM12L Classics. I'll put removable casters on it to help with the weight.

I'll take my single G1265 out of the box and drop it into my 1x12 open back.

Giving my Coyote cab 1x12 to my son. He likes to run the old EVM12L with the old Mesa MK1 I gave him in that cab.

Done.

I found a Peavey VT60 on ebay, broken, local. I bin $5 and won. The iron was good and the cab was in acceptable condition. I ripped out the SS preamp, drilled out for 4 noval sockets and built a Dumble HRM with reverb in it.

The reverb is based on an ECL86, which is basically an EL-84 and 1/2 12AX7. The pentode side drives the reverb, triode side recovers. I had some difficulty with the socket arcing until I raised the screen resistor way up, 330K.

Sucker sounded great out of the gate with a pair of Tonkers but I felt it could benefit from a different speaker combination so I tried several others, the Swamp Thang was the clear winner.

I also made a new faceplate and replaced the grill cloth. It's a very cool conversation piece.

Since then I've found 2 more of these amps, one a bare chassis that I built a head cab for, and one a 2x12 like mine but the 120 watt 4x6L6 version. I transplanted Dumbles for friends and they sound great as well. One is a straight HRM, no reverb and a passive loop, the other has a built in Dumbleator with jacks and controls on the front panel.

I'm doing exactly the same thing at this moment. Peavey Classic VT to dstyle HRM.

Here's my 2x12 ... delivered this week ... looks good and a lot like the original 1x12. Comes in at 56# with two EVM12L speakers ... the 1x12 is 31#. So it's a bit heavy for a guy with a history of back problems but it does sound good. Maybe I'd be tempted to drop a nice 100db Alnico that's about 10# lighter on one side. :)

OK ... so my new plan for the 2x12 is My Celestion 1265 Reissue + Scumback M75-LHDC 65 watt. That brings the cab down to under 40 pounds and gives me a different flavor cab. I'll let you know how it turns out.

My cabs will be:
  • This new 2x12 Celestion/Scumback (Should be Robben-ish)
  • EVM12L 1x12 open back - my favorite cab
  • EVM12 1x12 slant back convertible (in rare case where I need two EVMs - outside for example)
  • EMI 10516 2x10 cab - not too loud but I like the way it records - real warm and can get gritty
I always thought I'd like the G1265 in a 2x12 - felt too flabby in 1x12 with a band. I hear a lot of good things about these Scumbacks. Found the M75-LHDC used this morning ... might be nice since it's closest to the G1265 on the Scumback site. Jim at Scumback recommended it and advised I not pair with the EVM. Probably right and my "bad back" agrees with the idea of separating the EVMs from the 2x12.

Again ... I'll report back in a couple of weeks.

My new Scumback made it to the UPS "destination location" the afternoon of 12/30. Where it will remain ... 12/31 ... 1/1 ... 1/2 ... 1/3 ... I hate it when that happens! It says the estimated delivery is 1/4 ... so just a little longer.
