Have you guys seen this?

John Mayer linked to my Wikipedia article. I'm not sure how to feel about this. Perhaps the body of the article was a wonderland of Dumble information?
Anyone know anything about that preamp? What really intrigues me is the accent switch next to the master volume - with no power amp NFB to control, what does that do?

It could be switching in a pre-emphasis cap before the final stage. It could also be something as simple as a bright switch on the Master.
My vote is the later.

Gary, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a SS ODS rack unit. The least of my concerns would be the accent switch, but I'd love to hear how the thing sounds all together!!glasman wrote:oldmacman wrote:Have you guys seen this?

Me too, I have a Peavey (yes I know YUCK) stereo 60/60 tube power amp and it would be fun to create a stereo rig for effects.
I have seen better pictures of that unit and it looks like Dumble idea of an Alembic preamp. Take the Clean and OD stages and feed it to an output section. I thought he also built a tube version of that preamp.
You know if you built a d-lator ijnto that little dude and did some frequency shaping, you just might have a dandy little recording preamp.
Have you ever noticed that no one ever talks about the Box-A-Lators.

Hmmm....
I think I have seen a pic of this "supposedly SS" ODS preamp before on the Treasures Pages ages ago.
If anybody could please enlighten me, why a SS ODS should have a Standby-Switch??? (see the three switches on the right, one for Power, one for Ground lift, one for Standby).
Yeah, the infamous "A Box Later" SS Dumbleator.......
Cheers,
Dominik

Re: John Mayer Dumble
A while back, before I built my first Dumble clone, I remember seeing a preamp called the Umble on runoffgroove. Never ended up building it.
Might be interesting to try it with JFETs and see how close one could get to the real thing.
I didn't even notice the no tubes part earlier - I'm willing to bet that preamp isn't solid state, just no tubes visible.
A solid state Dumblelator is definitely doable. Maybe I'll try one in my next build.
