Locations for shielded runs

Post by grumpy »

Where do you blokes use shielded? On my build so far I have it going from input jack to Cl1 grid, and Vol to Cl2 grid but now I would like to decide where else I need to use it before I go further.
I see from Ayan's D pics that Howie used it going to the drive and drive level ratio pots and it also looks like he goes from the ch sw relay?
Dogears says to use it as little as poss and I think I've read that he does not use it going to the master? I'd prefer to use it only where I have to!
I'd really appreciate any input here!

Cheers all from Oz, Grumpy John

I try and use the same amount of capacitance as the real amps. In fact, I have been known to use small 10pf-27pf caps to simulate the capacitance if I don't use shielded.

I would use it on the drive pots. Just make sure it is good stuff.

Thanks Scott, I am using some RG59 that measures about 20pf per foot, I assume that is OK.
I will use it going to the drive pots and probably also in the other spots where I can see HAD used it if that's the thing to do.

Cheers!
