background noise
I walked into some real nice 15 inch speakers so I built a 5E3 to push one of them. It sounds great but I have some intermittent background noise, it sounds like hiss/white noise that goes for a few seconds then stops. Throughout this noise the guitar sounds rich and clear, no effect on output. Any thoughts where I could start looking? Your help in past issues have been very helpful and tautght me a lot. Thanks for your efforts.
Re: background noise
Do you still get this noise with cable UNplugged from the amp? Let's try to determine if it's an internal or external noise.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

Re: background noise
I had this problem once went through every solder joint replaced caps resisters finally hit the right cold solder joint fixed the problem.
It was my first build tought me alot about trouble shooting and soldering .
Along the way others shared there problems with bad caps and a few bad resisters that caused the problem for them.
No fun my friend .

Re: background noise
Roll a few tubes through V1 to see if it changes.

Noise does ocur without cable plugged as well as with cable plugged in.
Re: background noise
Make sure your input jack is shorting to ground when not plugged in.
Strange that it would be intermittent.
Is this a new build?
Check all grounds and solder joints.
