i built my studio back in washington in '99 walls were 3ft+ thick.
the sound channel or Z strip works well to isolate upper frequency but to remove sub sonic and low end. it takes mass. I floated the floors on "U" blocks and filled in the under the sub floor with sand. then built the subfloor up about 3" before covering in cork. I cut the concrete slab for each room for isolation. the walls were built around cynder blocks tied together with rebar and filled with sand. then sheet rock howdy board sheet rock, 6" air gap and reverse / repeat Z strip sheet rock. finished in hardwood / stone / or diffusion. same sort of deal on the ceiling isolated duct work blown batting insulation and hanging false ceiling to act as a trap. factor in all the acoustically correct angles and you have one of the most expensive wastes of space possible from a designer's point of view! but a very nice sounding isolated space to record in.
For this project i'm just going to hang diffusers based on the skyline and some custom diffusion on the walls behind the drum kit to act as wall art and break up a bit of the slap back. nothing to intense or needed for recording isolation.
The room doesn't even have a door, the wife loves it!
