Looks like two of the tubes are being sacrificed on the altar of tone. Nothing between the screens and AC ground. I wonder if a screen short would turn the 390R into a fuse before it turned the fuse into a fuse.

Both, it appears. Not fused with a slo fuse either f3A

This is why I don't like 84s even a bit. The tubes are fragile and the amps they build around them are built like cardboard cowboys.

These things are known to have bad filter caps. It may have been a bad run of caps but 3 out 5 I've looked at needed some caps changed out. Check them.

Also use 2.2k screen resistors with el84s...the tubes will run with less trouble.
