Doug has some impressive chops. He just seems to "get it".
That amp sounds killer, but I want to hear some clips without the tube screamer

Doug is a cool cat.
I have had some time with that sss. It sounds skinny and very pretty. The highs are sweet but there was not a lot of low frequency content with the 1x12 we tried the amp with.
And that amp looks very cool, imho.

Re: SSS @ youtube
To me, this sss did feel very different than the eff86 based dumbleland based amp that I built. The Pentode amp was much more compressed and sustainy.

Verrry nice! That SSS looks like a fairly old one. Jelle, do you know where it stands in the SSS timeline?

Re: SSS @ youtube
Honestly, I think Doug could find a way to pull out good sounds from the worst amps I have ever built. He has that knack of playing the amp as much as the guitar.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
Re: SSS @ youtube
Based on the design of the chassis, that IMO bears a likeness to the design of the transition generation ODS amps with a black chassis, and based on the parts used inside this SSS #004, IMO it was most probably built/completed somewhere between 1978 (at the earliest) and 1981 (at the latest):David Root wrote:do you know where it stands in the SSS timeline?

Thanx again Max, I didn't associate those pix with the one in the video, different angle of view and different coloration I guess.
