I was looking on you tube and came across this-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SucBdl1rKy0
at 3:56 it gets bad ass...some of the best amp tone ever...
and then I searched more and found this-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBo2ekb6TKk
not nearly as good...he needs that tan dumble or a close sounding amp IMHO.

Thanks for this. While I always thought that CC was a great singer and songwriter, but I never knew he was a tremendous player as well. Tone is very similar to the RF tone from the mid 80s up through the Miles Davis era, where he even used a Strat as well.dr. who wrote:I was looking on you tube and came across this-

Re: Christopher Cross
wow...I always thought he was some sort of Stephen Bishop singer/songwriter and the guitar parts were Steely Dan session guys...so it's hard to tell on the second youtube, but what's the '86 sound like...non-hrm, classic tone stack?

						Re: Christopher Cross
on the original album, Eric Johnson did the guitar parts. which most probably know that.

Going off memory here, but I think EJ only played on "Minstrel Gigolo".Richie wrote:on the original album, Eric Johnson did the guitar parts. which most probably know that.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Re: Christopher Cross
Yes only that track.
All other tracks are Chris Cross, Jay Graydon and Larry Carlton.
too yacht rock for me.

Re: Christopher Cross
I knew CC played guitar because I had seen some video of him playing acoustic, but I had no idea that he was a good electric player as well.
The chorus was a bit much but he still sounded good.

Yep, that's how a Dumbleland 300SL sounds (2 even better of course!).dr. who wrote:some of the best amp tone ever...
I really love the Dumblelands for this kind of lead tones, perhaps even a tiny bit more then some of the the singers, bit more throaty perhaps. Of course ODS's are fine amps too but a bit like toys side by side with a Dumbleland "organ". My taste of course.

Re: Christopher Cross
That d-tone in '86 is amazing...
Who knows the history of the tan amp? When/how was it ever modded or was it?

Re: Christopher Cross
He got his two 300SL's you see and hear in this clip in the early eighties. For a closer view you can look at the picture that was published in the guitar player interview. I don't have it at hand right now. Around 90 they went to Japan. No mods as far as I remember now. Pictures have been on the "treasures..." website (Yuki's, later Bill's). Maybe still there. Don't know.dr. who wrote:That d-tone in '86 is amazing...

Perhaps best look on both 300SL's at 2:11 or 2:12.
Cheers and happy xmas to the whole gang

Re: Christopher Cross
Where did the 300sl's end up?

						Re: Christopher Cross
In one of the private Mercedes-Benz museums?dr. who wrote:Where did the 300sl's end up?
No, just kidding. Please understand: if I knew, I most probably would have been asked not to spread the news.
If you like this tone, maybe Brandon can do something for you (an original one will be hard to find and perhaps v e r y expensive).
Some of the singers he knows are not t h a t far away from a Dumbleland for guitar from what I've read between some of his lines here. And if he would need some additional infos, he will know how to write a PM.
Cheers and my best wishes

Re: Christopher Cross
I have always wanted one for my bass player, but $10,000 is too much until I get rich...I loved T. Shannon on his, and have wanted one since.
