the marshall major that srv used also has this output topology...maybe there are some clues there too...cf, etc, and cleanest power amp possible at loud volumes.
Re: SSS - Nukular Warhead - Chassis are Finished
do you have a schematic of a major that shows this setup?
I love my rail tone amp!

Here is the Marshall Major Lead schematic. It does have a Post PI driver stage, however its not CF.

Obviously an Obama amp!UltraHookedOnPhonix wrote:If Dumble didn't build this then...Barack Obama did!
Or does this PCB crap look to someone here as being a Skyliner pre with Fender Showman style reverb and SVT or Major style power amp?
Cheers

how is a fender showman reverb different that any other blackface fender reverb?

100 watt head no verb..grunt..how is a fender showman reverb different that any other blackface fender reverb?
Henry beat me by 3 min..LOL
I used a modified Silverface Quad Reverb for years.. Got some pretty cool Stevie tones out of that Monster..I liked it better than the Showman... Or just could have been one of those good sounding Fenders!!

Re: SVT Power Amp Schematic
According to what I've heard, the set-up in an SSS is similar...but uses a 12AX7 instead of a 12BH7 as a cathode-follower/driver. Plan on a bias supply of -150 volts...with a B+ of around 500. If you work the circuitry right, you can take the -150 off the bottom of a 650 volt PT (think MusicMan), leaving the remaining 500 for the B+. Cathode resistor on cathode-follower/driver S/B 100k if you want an exact clone. My version is different.RJ Guitars wrote:
This all becomes relevant to the SSS amp if we can make the case that it also uses the SVT style 12BH7 drivers into the power section.
Any well informed persons or otherwise qualified amp genius care to enlighten me a bit?

Yep, thats the jist. I explain it to people as providing constant current sourceto the power tubes. As a result you get less PI breakup, and little (if any) PI distortion. Also by providing each power tube with its own current source, it helps prevent any clipping or distortion as a result of sag on the current supply being supplied through the PI.use it's cathode as it's output is called a "Current Amplifier"
Interesting what Thyx says, I have heard it both ways. That said I have built my version of the SSS with a 12ax7 run (dually) as a cathode follower, each half driven from 1/2 the PI. Works great, and does exactly what it is supposed to.
it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds
Re: SVT Power Amp Schematic
Thanks thyx, and the rest of you all. I wish I had the know how to figure out the things you guy's know to build a close SSS , that and SRV is what got me into the Dumble's in the first place. Thanks, Chadthyx wrote:According to what I've heard, the set-up in an SSS is similar...but uses a 12AX7 instead of a 12BH7 as a cathode-follower/driver. I noticed the Creme Brulee has a rotary tone control.
Not sure how applicable it would be to the SSS but it may help.

That looks a lot like the EF86 channel of a Matchless DC30:

I think that is a Matchless clone. Which one I don't know.

Thanks Zippy... has anyone ever played through one of these? I am curious if the tone control does anything especially cool?Zippy wrote:That looks a lot like the EF86 channel of a Matchless DC30:

That is Henry's amp. He told me he still owns it. Trying to get him to send it to medr. who wrote:Is that Kaisers 100w? If so then it sounds amazing. I think it's my favorite SSS after the KTC...whatever happened to that amp?
These days he is digging his new Super Overdrive II.
