Those Sovetek 5881's are nothing to scoff at. I can't quite put it into words ever, but there is something about their character that screams RAWK & ROLL!! Aggressive is the word maybe? Seems like if I wanna play like a panty waist I'll have something else in those holes - but when it's time to get some panties down - it's Sovteks. Those cheap Sino 5881's are kinda cool that way too! Since we're getting all scientific

So I'm not the only one that feels that these tubes RAWK!
And they are not expensive too!

Structo/Tele: Thanks for the clarification on the E cap brand. I may have to score a few of those in the name of "science".
Nice to hear that others have had good experiences with the Sovteks. I was beginning to think that I was a total heathen!
I first used the 5881 WXT in a Ampeg V4 re-hab 3 or 4 years ago. According to Lord Valve they would gracefully stand up to the hellishly high plate voltages in the circuit. He was correct! Good value and good tone to boot. They have become my "go to" output tube for the folks that ask me to fix/maintain their 6L6'ish amps on a budget. Not a single complaint as of yet.
I recall reading somewhere that either LC's or RF's amp tech reported the use of these in their Dumble. Anyone else see/hear that as well?
Unfortunately, they are just a smidge to tall to fit into my D'lite "cab" (a metallic Bogen CHB 35 enclosure).
Otherwise, they would be my tube of choice for this particular build.
I do prefer the NOS 5881 TungSol in my Bassman 5F6A mutation. But...that, among other things, has an all octal preamp and PI which probably makes a big difference.
Rawk on!

Heh..heh...heh...He said panties, holes AND scientific!!!!

Re: Rectification question
Not knowing who wound the transformer, this is a guess.
But..... if it was designed for 120v orimary with a secondary of 650v you would only have 622 with 115, that translates to about 30+ volt DC difference, if my mental math is correct. Turns ratio about 5.4:1
