Where are all the new build threads?

Post by trane34 »

Best part of this forum is opening up a new build thread. I get to vicarously live through others accomplishments.
Just wondering is everybody to busy to post? There has got to be someone with new digs to show off.

I've kind of peaked out on the D style amps, plus I've been real busy this spring. Back in Dec in did start rebuilding the first amp I built in a CE chassis which was a 100W non HRM skyliner with the high(700)voltage supply. I pulled all the eyelet boards I made and replaced them with Jasons boards and also dropped in new iron.
I really could have been finished with it back in Dec, but I made the decision to put the correct taper pots in it. So, now I'm down to needing only a 30% 1M for the MV and then I can finish it up. Taylor made me second head box for it which I've had over a month and haven't even opened it up.

I do have a a couple of 6G6B Basmman builds in progress, pics of the first one might be up before I finish the HV D style amp.

Here's my work in progress...

I've been rather uncommitted to finishing this project. My list of excuses is rather long, but the real reason is I've lost interest for the moment. I'll pick it back up when my interest peaks again... good old ADD to the rescue!

I do think about it, and will often go out to the garage to do ONE thing to the amp, and call it progress. At this rate, I'll finish it in 2017. I'll get another spurt... now it gives me time to collect any other old stock parts if I find them.

And, maybe... perhaps Feedback City's secrets will be revealed and I can incorporate it into this build???

I also enjoy the new build pics. There's typically lots to learn from viewing others work.
I'm also in the slow builders camp, as it's hard to find large blocks of "spare" time to work on amps. The D styles are way labor intensive so such a project would take me months to source parts and put then all together.
I agree with trane34, bring on the photos!

A 6G6B Bassman is on my short list for a future build. Looking forward to seeing yours, TM.

I'm slowly but surely working on my bass players amp. I've got it designed and mostly planned out. As far as building I have stripped the PA100 chassis clean (was your typical sloppy mid 70's Fender junk full of errors) and installed the output transformer. Still ordering parts too. I'm waiting on a 9 pound toroid from Antek and a quad of KT120's still (I'm excited to try these!). Once I get the board(s) made and some more transformers mounted I will post pics. This thing is gonna be LOUD!

Edit: Just realized I was in the Dumble forum and not the tech forum but it still counts. The power supply and output stage are derived from the SSS (including post phase inverter drivers).

Hi Cliff, I acquired a complete Fender PA100 to build a Dumble in and decided to use a CE chassis instead. Unlike yours, mine was a flea bay buy, and turned out to be immaculate. The wiring and all was perfect for the era, and best of all it never seemed to have been used. The quad of Magnavox 6l6GC tested perfect and matched! Anyone know if they were OEM in that head? Now I have that mongo Cabinet and chassis. Where do you post? I would like to follow your project. Thanks Jim

I have a second gen build I started building in my mind about two month ago. The boards are done, but now I'm trying to decide which power supply to use and how to plan that out. I need a few more parts and some new mil spec wire before I start it....should be soon though. My 102 is such a blast to play I want this one to be even better. I have the Nos 7581A for this next build, and will be doing another Dumbleator as well. I'll probably be done sometime mid summer.

Alright well that works. Thanks to all who posted builds and to those who are stuck in amp building purgatory at the moment. I fall in the latter as I'm wating on some custom made chassis. I have the majority of parts just sitting here for a 183 and BM build. Kills me.

Got a 100w low plate/high plate in the works. The chassis is at the machine shop and the parts are arriving from the usual suppliers. This one will have a loop in it. Cab is done. Probably looking at the end of June. I just posted a thread asking about the new Tung Sol 7581s. Right now the tubes to beat are TAD short bottles. Assorted new and old glass for the preamp. sh

I have a D Lite based 4X6V6 build that I'm tweaking.
Waiting for parts to come in for a built in loop, and getting ready to
start on a quick and dirty combo cab.
Pics when up and running.

Ahhh, we like the in progress pictures too!

I have been happy with the TAD 6L6 STR's (tall) bottles in my ODS.
I was a little gun shy of those as I had one fail in my D'lite after only a few hours.
