Accent Switch on Asian Chassis

Post by ampdoc1 »

I got my -umble chassis from Asia (Thailand?). Looks pretty good, but there is a hole for an "accent" switch next to the (overdrive) volume pot location. I don't think I've seen any schematic with this switch on it. Anyone know what this is for?

It works like a presense control. As it's wired in the attached schematic, I thought it was a little overboard so I used a 1k resistor in series to tame it down a bit.

Its sounding like I may have the same style amp. It came with boards and a skimpy set of instructions on how to build. Its also looking as though it may be an early 60's design which is starting to look less desirable. Would a 70's or even 90's version be a better starting place?

Scrap the boards for sure. You can easily build a Hybrid-A in that chassis with just a few minor tweaks. The Accent switch works pretty well once you get the resistor value dialed in. For the OD Level, I used an internal trimmer and just set it for a reasonable balance between clean and OD volume. The biggest PITA with that chassis is that the end caps are not inset by enough to allow Dumble-style mounting. Make sure you leave enough clearance inside to run your mounting screws.
