I finally got a cabinet built and took her out to wind her up. One outside gig and one fairly large club gig on Saturday. Man if you haven't built a Liverpool you have got to. All controls about 12 oclock. It is a bit squishier to play than my Express and has a bit more 18 watt marshall quality to it. Note and chords sound very complex. Plenty loud and real nice clean tones. Mine has a 5u4 rectifier which I am sure makes it a bit bluesier. I am playing through a Weber 15" Bluedog in an open back. I just have to thank the Amp Garage once again for helping me sound better than I really am! Thank You Thank You!
There is something very satisfying about gigging with an amp that you built yourself Especially when it sounds great My Express has been a blast.
Congratulations

The best part is having people come up and look at it, then ask "WTF is that thing?"
I put the ZOSO logo's on my amps so it really adds to the confusion!
I assume by squishy you guys mean the notes kind of sag a bit (almost like flab a little in a good way) and tighten up as they ring? So by faster, they sound more defined immediately after they're played?
What affect does fixed vs cathode bias play here, and would the tube rectifier vs solid state have more of an effect on the squishiness than the bias type?
i've always liked fixed bias over cathode bias.. fixed seems to have faster pic attack response..a bit more headroom..and the amp will seem just a wee bit louder..very subtle, but there.. i also like the ss recto over a tube recto..if i use a tube recto i like the GZ34..its close to ss recto, compared to others.. plus with ss recto you can up filtering if you need to.
these are just my opinions..others may like just the opposite..
I like my Rocket the best of all, it has a very good tone. I am still trying different preamp tubes to see what I like the best. I am using a Gabkit 212 open back cab with Celestion Vin 30s.
The express I didn't built and I find that using 6L6s Sovtek type I get a better sound then the EL34s, but it is a ceriatone not my build so that may why? I will have to build my own Express and see. The liverpool is also a great sounding amp.
I tried adding reverb but found I like the tone without any reverb, strange because I have always run reverb in the past. Don't miss it when gigging either.
I used the tube rectifier to drop my voltages a bit. I am using scrap trannys so they are not right in the pocket. To be honest I have always preffered the tube rectifier and cathode bias. It is just a players prefference. Tight amps are for good players like Richie!
