Wood source finder

Post by gahult »

Hi,
Found this on another BB. Thought it might be handy to some.
May have been posted here before, but I don't remeber running across it.

Thanks

Thanks for that...I'm having trouble finding a local shop...and the two that I know that have figured hardwood apparently don't understand what "figured hardwood" means. I show up to find a couple of boards with a hint flame in them and they were selling them for the price of a full on AAA wood.

Hopefully this will help me find something better.

Raven, did one of the places you visited happen to be Owl Hardwoods in lombard?

Yeah Eric where? I need to stay away from them too. :D

Have you been to Wood World Elston about two blocks north Diversey? They usually had some nice scraps for misc. small projects, but I wasn't shopping for T-wreck Quality cabinet wood. I will need some nice quality soon to go with those great face plates. Two kids not giving much time for amp building, fun but no amps :) I have to admit though those cabinets Ritchie is selling look great. I was hoping to do one in flame or quilt maple, but those cherry cabs look good and take a lot less time.

You pegged it. I drive up there because they tell me they have some figured maple...it's was a 6' board with about 1' of light flames for $175!

Maybe I could make a watch box outa it.

I have a couple tolex cabs coming to me from MuchXS. I like the first one I got from him a lot, it's very well made. But now that I'm getting the garage in the new house put together I'm hoping to put together a proper shop in the garage that I can work in all winter.

I have dreams of a flamed maple head cab dyed blue for my Rocket (or the Liverpool if I decide that's more my style of amp).

I've not tried any other lumber yards besides Owl. I'm hoping I find someone local that's not going to rape me on the price of figured wood. Especially since if the setup my garage/shop works out the way I want, I plan on making small boxes, head cabs, and maybe even hardwood 2X12 cabs as a hobby.

Yes, I found a source in Traverse City I didn't know about.
I'll have to stopin there when I get up that way and see what they have.
