Fuses and other loose ends

Post by benoit »

I've got nearly everything ordered for my build, but have a few remaining questions.

1. What is the rating of the mains fuse supposed to be? 3 amp slow blo? 0.5A fast acting for HV? As long as I have the correct size to fit my holder and correct current rating does it matter what brand/type I choose?

2. Standoffs. Do they need to be a certain material? Where does one find them? I'm hoping mouser.

3. Terminals for ground points: any specific recommendations for a certain part? What size bolts work well?

1. 3 AMP and .5 will work (I use a 1 amp 'cause it makes me feel Macho)
2. Mouser has stand offs of both the hexagonal and round variety. You can use the "hollow tube" type with a long bolt or the threaded type (#6 -32 is good), or the stud type (for 6-32 nuts) the 6 -32 means a sloppy 1/8 inch hole. My favorites are round 1/2 inch long threaded bottom and top with a top shoulder so I can drill a 3/16" hole in the board and it captively rests on the stand off. Somebody on this forum probably knows for sure but as near as I can tell the real ones used hexagonal 1/2" tall, threaded bottom and studded top (6-32).
3. Mouser sells the keystone grounding lugs with the internal tooth lock as part of the lug. 6-32 size is good for most, if you want to put one on a transformer bolt you need 8-32.
