Sarah

Post by Structo »

I was reading Dave Hunters book "The Guitar Amp Handbook" and in the back of the book he has an interview with Ken Fischer.
Ken said that he loaned "Sarah", which was his personal Express amp, ( named after his dead grandmother) to Billy Gibbons one time and that Billy was supposed to get it back to Ken.
Billy used it for two weeks and called Ken and said, "I've got to have this amp!"
Ken told him he would build him another one just like it because that one was named after grandma but Billy said, "No, you don't get it. This one.
I know one sounds one way and the next will sound a little different.
I collect amps.
I've got 45 JTM45's down here and they all sound different."

Ken talked it over with the family and he decided to let Billy have it.
He called him the next day with the good news and Billy sent by overnight FedEx a personal check.
No mention of the price.... :D

Interesting interview.
Didn't somebody here work on Sarah recently?

Available to you for $39,500 from Ultrasound - see http://www.ultrasoundampsales.com/ or http://s30931.gridserver.com/amp_browser.php?ampid=56 for Sarah.

It's an interesting interview in the book but I'm still inclined to take the comments about different wire insulation colours sounding different with a pinch of salt.

I wonder why Billy sold it? He certainly doesn't need the money.

Yes, I was a bit amused about the insulation dyes and speed, direction of the wire.
But hey, he was a master innovator/ builder so what can I say.
There is always some eccentricity that goes with creative minds.
