ceriatone 18 watt plexi

Post by andrew »

Hello I built an 18w plexi using the Ceriatone's layout but I get a splatty fuzztone sound and the string only sounds when it is hit hard. When I turn the amp off it clears up just before it cuts off. Any ideas? Thanks!

Found the problem. I noticed one output socket was redplating. It was a bad connection a PI cap. I fixed it but didn't care for the sound. New build time.

If you redplated a tube, you may have toasted it. Could that account for poo sound? If you want more headroom, lower the grid leaks to 220K. It will clean up quite a bit. This amp is very tweakable. I suggest you "enroll" over at www.18watt.com where they live an breathe this stuff. Don't give up just yet!

I'm blaming it on some of the many used and abused old parts I had. I started from scratch and built an Ef86 18watter with good parts this time and it does sound good. Next time before I run to the forum for help I'll check out my parts. Thanks!
