Unseen Ultra Phonix played by John Mayer?

Post by rccolgan »

Any of my friends here seen this "Ultra Phonix" before? It has a cheesy angled "Ultra Phonix" badge in Fender font which makes me think it's a tribute build by someone but I figured I'd share here if anyone has seen such a thing. I dug around the internet and came up with nothing.

Hey Ryan,

I don't have any info on that amp. But I caught the Friday show at the Sphere last weekend and JM (and the whole band) sounded fantastic. It was by far the best audio, and obviously visual, concert experience I've ever had by a long shot. The sound was so balanced and at perfect volume, no tinnitus afterwards at all. Really something worth experiencing in the flesh.

Interesting spotting, thanks for sharing Ryan !
No info to share, but curious as you about who would have built this amp.

I think it's a Bill Kinard amp. It has all the the visual cues of a early Bill amp. (IYKYK)

I dug around a few sources of mine and I'm 90% sure it is... He doesn't reply to my Instagram messages directly. The one thing that's throwing me off is the UltraPhonix plate. I know a few folks on Etsy make them but I don't think they go back as far as the early Kinard amps.

That's awesome, Dan!! Thank you for sharing your impressions! Sooooo much technology in the Sphere, I'm sure your ears were delighted! I'm dying to make a show. I just started a new job and I'm trying to be a good employee before requesting time to travel for my favorite band :-) BUT I am hoping August I can check them out! Fingers crossed!
