I've got a fender bassman 20 combo (http://tinyurl.com/2dy4vu) that I don't really like. It has a decent clean sound and would probably take pedals ok but its not really good for anything I'd use it for. Not enough clean headroom (or really volume period) for my jazz guitar ensemble and not a very cool dirty sound for my rockin on the side. As you can see from the schem, its 2x7025 and 2x6v6. I'm not sure on the exact specs of the transformers because info is really hard to find on this amp I'm going to call Fender and see if I can get that info later today.
Anyway, I figure All I really have to do to do a 'wreck conversion is replace the board, maybe the pots, and drill a new hold for a 3rd preamp tube and I should be golden, provided the trannies can handle it. Even if I had to replace one or both transformers just having the chassis ready to go would cut my costs a lot, and that bassman 20 is just collecting dust anyhow. Its one of those amps that there were very few made but also very few people who actually want one. Gotta love it.
Seems like a few people around here have done 6v6 wrecks. There are some cool sounding clips in the files section of an express and someone said they did a rocket with a pair of 6v6s also. I'm continuing to scour the forum for info on doing this but if anyone has experience with this please chime in.

2x6v6 wreck conversion?

Re: 2x6v6 wreck conversion?
I just realized that all I'd have to do to make a full-on wreck out of it (unless my trannies could handle a pair o' 6l6s or el34s) is to pick up the tone slut iron and cut that extra hole. Correct me if I'm wrong. I think I'm gonna do a straight up express.
Re: 2x6v6 wreck conversion?
IIRC, the power xfmr is the same as my Princeton Reverb II, which has 4 preamp tubes. You should be just fine. (I believe both schems are in Pittman's "Tube Amp Book" if you want to double-check.)
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Re: 2x6v6 wreck conversion?
I have the TAB but I thought I remembered checking that schem against my amp and thinking it wasn't the same. However that was a long time ago, and , I think, before I knew what a cap can was, so I'm thinking that's why. Anyhow, I also have the schem I found on schem.heaven a while ago but it doesn't say what the secondaries are supposed to be. There is a P/N but its hard to tell what it is. I also don't have any info on what the OT is or if it would work well in an Express type amp.
Re: 2x6v6 wreck conversion?
I just realized that the OT, being meant for 12 or 15, maybe 18w max, would never handle 2 6l6s or el34s. New trannies it is.
