I have a 85 watt 6CA7 based amp with a free 12 ax7
Looking for suggestion to build a secound channel. I have a fender TMB ( ab763 like ) channel working but I have a full 12 AX7 left.
WOUld like something higher gain / distortion but not modern high gain ( only one tube available anyway )
I have room for 1 volume and 1 tone pot... maybe I could place another pot in the back. THere is also i switch in front I could remove/replace. THInking maybe 3 position cathode bypass switch there.
Looking for suggestions !

If you use a stacked pot you can have both a bass and treble control.
You can use a mini toggle switch for a different mid setting .
For this new channel you should put in a relay or opto so you can imploy a foot switch to choose either channel.

thanks, You are right, I should make it switchable. I'll look into that. But first I need to figure how to build the channel, I want it More of a rock thing while the existing channel is basically Twinn clean. Don't like the Mrashall Jcm 800 type of sound sound, too ice picky looking for something closer to Dumble... but I have only 1 valve... maybe I'll have to go plexy...

It’s sounds like for your needs you only should be looking for a 40% hotter drive signal out of this channel and into the PI then what your getting out of what you will call your clean channel.

Use relay switching to feed the clean channel into the 2 extra stages to get a hot channel.
Tube junkie that aspires to become a tri-state bidirectional buss driver.

Just another idea to consider? I am particularly fond of the 5879 tubes both in a V1 position and as an overdrive/boost tube.
