Required training

If a in depth course was given on repairing tube amps then every aspiring new tech should be made as part of the final machanical / electrical part of the test to change out the 3 filter cans in a Ampeg V4 or Vt22.

Just sayin after doing another one of these darn things!
Lol!

By strange coincidence I have recapped both a V-2 and a V-4 in the last six weeks. Along with power cord replacement.

I didn't find these jobs to be difficult at all. If there's a skill qualification test for an amp tech to pass before becoming a "Real Amp Tech", I'd expect it to be harder than that!

The qualification test should be an amp that has one puked filter capacitor, two shorted coupling capacitors, a riveted-in tube socket with hogged out contact pins, a failed FET in the channel or loop swiitching circuit, a broken chassis ground wire underneath the PC board and a parasitic oscillation caused by bad wire dress.

And explaining to the customer it couldn't be done for $40 and ready for his gig in 45 minutes.

Should be a nice amp after the restauration !
But lots of work.

I love those, especially the « Distortion » models (even if you don’t want to use the Distortion channel).
