Tight/Normal switch

Post by Steveo »

Was thinking of a tight switch that could be used for extended range guitars. Its just an additional 50/50 filter cap after the rectifier switched in when the ground is completed by a switch. Would it make a terrible pop if engaged?

Yes, it will pop. You will want to have 10k or more between the cap and ground, and then bypass that with the switch for Tight mode. You can see an example of this in the Vox AC30CC2. They call it Vintage/Modern.

You also need to be playing whatever amp loud enough to be really touging on the power supply hard enough to hear the added filtering lessoning the voltage sag!

The switch worked out great, no popping. Definitely feels different when engaged. Id only use it for the downtuned heavier stuff, as i get older that is more rare.
