somebody check my thinking
OK, I've got a 2x12 combo amp. In this amp I have 1 - 8 ohm Vintage 30 speaker and 1 - 16 ohm Classic Lead speaker. My amp has 4,8 & 16 0hm outputs. Obviously I can run either speaker plugged in to its proper output but my thinking is that I can run both speakers together, plugging the 16 ohm speaker into the 8 ohm jack with the 8 ohm speaker plugged into the 4 ohm jack. This gives me three different speaker options, all set at the proper impedence, right?

I think if you want to plug both that you should match the impedance. 16 into 16 and 8 into 8 instead of what you said.

Re: somebody check my thinking
Do what you said, 16 on the 8 tap and 8 on the 4 tap.

+1 -- the reason being that both connected at face value will reflect an impedance back to the output tubes about half of what they expect (basically "correct" and "correct" in parallel).
By connecting to the lower value tap, each speaker will reflect a higher impedance back to the primary, and combined it should be close to correct overall.

+1
16 on 8 tap & 8 on 4 tap.
Some mismatch like both speaker in serie (24) in the 16 tap may sound good, in this case the classic lead will eat more power but the one you will ear depend also on speaker efficiency. It will not hurt an amp like "PP of 6L6 in a 4K primary OT".
what amp is it?
