7868 output transformer

Post by giorgiosecco »

hi everybody,I got an old ampeg gemini II,totally gone, someone modified it many years ago with a transistor power out,but left there the output transformer. My questions:the ampeg gemini II had 2 7868 tubes,is this output transformer usable with other tubes(I'd like to build a trainwreck clone with 2 6v6)or is it a waste of time and I'd better start with a new output transformer?I never had to test an output transformer before,I dont know where to start from so.. what should I expect to read on my tester on primary and secondary,if everything's ok?The chassie is really damaged but still has the sockets for the 7868s and I found some new ones at tubestore..does anybody know this tube?Do you think its a good idea to stay with it for my clone project?(cause I dont find any spec at all!)Thanx a lot for your time, wait for an answer

The 7868 is more in the 6L6/EL34 output impedance range. You could use it with 4x6V6.

The 7868 is a sweet sounding tube akin to a 6L6 and it's back in production so............

Plate load 6600 ohms
Max plate voltage 450V
Heater current 0.80A
Mounting position:any
