Tweedle Dee Champ build

Post by Oddvar R »

I am rebuilding a Epiphone Valve Jr 5w amp that I have into a Tweedle Dee Champ. I plan to take out the board and replace it with a build as laid out in the schematics section here. The Jr PT has a 260v secondary, and I must admit I don't quite understand what to look for in the PT. What actually constitutes a workable PT in this context and any context for that matter. It seems like the champ has one 6v6 power tube, the PT was meant for El84. The OT is a Classic Tone 15w.

I also have a choke 8H 100ma. What does this actually mean? And is it usable in this build?

Regarding the PT, you need to know what the ma current draw is of the power tubes and what the working range & max voltage is. Look at the tube data sheets for the tubes you are using. I've attached a tube data "cheat sheet" that may be useful to you.

Keep in mind that if your PT doesn't produce similar voltage on the power tube plate that it may not sound the same? It still may be a nice sounding amp but just different.
