A-470 clone Output transformer wiring verification

Post by Doxie man »

I have this Heyboer unit that DOES have the two UL leads on the primary. Can someone please verify the primary and secondary leads for me ? I believe it is the same A470 version Triode Electronics offers ( all wire leads match in color) so I attached the diagram Triode has on their site but want to be 100% sure. I don’t know if Triode’s were made by Heyboer though. The unit I have IS a Heyboer unit ( see attached pic) and it’s wiring color leads differ from the version RJ sells.

You could contact Heyboer and get the info for that part number, but I would just make some measurements to see if the OT you have is consistent with the diagram: Check DC resistance across the primary and secondary outer leads assuming the diagram colors, and see if the resistance at the taps decreases as you move from one end towards the other on each winding. The difference will be small on the secondary, so you could apply some low AC voltage (6.3 VAC heater voltage, say) across the primary and measure voltages on the secondary. While you’re at it you can check the impedance ratio by squaring the voltage ratio. I would put a load resistor on the secondary to do that, like paralleling two 33 ohm resistors across the outer (16 ohm) secondary leads.
