Fowler AFD #39

Post by joeboo88 »

Hi: I built this a week or so ago, but my OT was bad.
I forgot that I had a 20 watt OT I could use.
The problem was from the great shelf crash of 2017. I came home from work and found one of my shelves crashed and my new 3 transformers were all dented up and tubes broken.

Anyways I fixed this OT - resoldered a broken lead and used lots of hot Glue to hold everything together
I used 6v6's and in the power section used I used the values for the 6v6 Plexi.
This amp is a KILLER! I love the hardly clean sound I get and gain is crazy good. I does clean up nice, but who wants that. the only thing I kinda wish for a little more Bass
I have the bass dimed all the way, maybe I'll put in a fat switch or something.
the amp is a little messy, I had to cram everything in a 16 inch chassis as this was all I had left. The .68uf caps are mounted under the board because they are those huge mustard ones.

Mark Fowler, thanks a bunch for making the Layout/schematic available to us. This is a great amp!

Joe, glad your enjoying your new build should provide hours of entertainment.

I can't see the bass pot wiring but I know I have wired that wrong before and had reduced bass response.
This amp should have plenty of bass and especially with the depth pot (resonance) you can rattle the windows with my 212 cabinet.

Thanks Mark. I will look into the bass issue. Grandkids are here for a week so I can enjoy it for a bit.
Will keep you posted, Joe

Hi Joe. Glad to hear it all worked out. I will start on mine as well this weekend.
What brand of 6v6 tubes are you using in the pics you attached?

Cheers

Lol... oops those are 5881’s.... actually they sound quite nice, so I kept them, but changed the plate
resistors from 1k to 470ohm
Don’t know If it matters or not.

Thanks for the update Joe. I like the sound of 5881's too.
Excited to make this my next build.
I have a friend that wants to learn to build amps and he is doing some of the soldering for me.

Cheers
