Oil filled transformers?

Post by va3dxv »

I have a few nice power transformers around I'd like to make use of. A couple are oil filled. No signs of leakage or anything though, and they seem to test OK. What are your thoughts on using them in a build? I know the oil contains PCB and if it leaks it's bad news. What about relative safety when in operation?

My understanding is that not all such oils contain PCBs.
But I would apply the 'precautionary principle' and properly dispose of any that I thought might leak.
