Liverpool building in progress [EU]

Post by erwin_ve »

Being a newbie on this side of TAG, been on Dumble side, I finally had the opportunity to do a wreck.
Last year a dutch member sold his chassis and transformer set which he got 10(?)years ago from RJ.

So it's gonna be a Liverpool with Larmar ppimv. Brad Paisley had some wonderfull tones on the "Play" album and Glen K. also has some wonderfull sounding clips with a Liverpool. I hope to get somewhere close to these tones.

To find a 1k/25w for the dropping string was a pain: mouser has them in backorder.
The 130r/25w is also on backorder but without a date for delivery.
So decided to parralel 2x 2,2k and 2x 270r to come close.

Erwin,

I've built a rocket and an Express over the past few years. The express was too much for me but I like my Rocket. I tend to use it along side my Dumble to add a little extra high end and grit.

good luck with the build. If you've built Dumbles then a trainwreck is easy :D

Nice start Erwin. I really like my Liverpool, but I also use an attenuator exclusively on it.

Marcus, thanks! Followed your thread on the express, hopefully I can tweak mine to my likings. I'm really curious how it behaves IRL.

Thanks Joe, did you build per layout of tweak it?

I have mine stock except .047 coupling caps. I found it is more manageable than the Express and is really sweet sounding.
I just realized I never posted my build... oh well

Joe: changing the coupling caps, was there too much bass?

Making progress: B+ and Ppimv left.

Erwin: no that's all I had on hand, i just never got around to replacing them. I've just ordered some more stuff and will be coming next week I hope .
I will change it back and see what the differences are.

Your build is coming along nicely.

Dave built me one and it's always arguing that it's the best amp I ever played through.

I swapped one resistor to get the second stage tamed. Hard to argue with the amp. It's a great rig.

You should see some of the photos Dave hasn't even shared with you guys of various builds, awesome jobs on his amps.

Thats a incredible neat built!
Is the bright switch replaced by a treble cap selector? What's your preffered cap? 50 or 500pF?

I have a question: having the Allyn Mey chassis, it has cagenuts but standard (EU)mounting screws don't' fit. What is the american size(UNC)for the cagenuts that came originally with the Allyn Mey chassis?

It's been a while since I used an Allynmey chassis either 8/32 or 10/32 threads.

It's alive! First start up was a loud squeel. PFB instead of NFB swapping wires :D .

Glad I installed a PPIMV , the Liverpool is as expected very loud.

First observation is: nice clean sounds, overdrive defenitly need some volume to sound good, tried some resistor swapping after the second triode(mine is 68K. 56 k made it a little less fuzzy and gave a better transition from clean to drive).

It started to feedback very soon when the volume was set high, even without a guitar plugged in.
After chopsticking I noticed the grid of the second stage is ultra sensitive. Swapping a preamp tube didn't help, this remained the same.
Is this normal? I never had this before that a grid was that sensitive, the whole wire coming from the pot is basically a mechanical feedback antenna.
