PS voltage question

Hello folks

I noticed on the side of my stove-in Ceriatone Liverpool clone (see other thread) that Nik had written 240v. Now in fact here in France the mains voltage is 220v (more or less...)

Would that make a difference? Since Nik is going to build me a new amp (although presumably by salvaging parts from the damaged one) should I stipulate 220v?

even here (down in corsica) voltage is now in the 230v range and i've heard they intend to provide 240v in the euro-zone.
so in the future your 220v liverpool will have 10% more voltage on the plates & heater...and may sound good too! who knows...

+10% on the heater and you are reaching maximum rating but you could fix it with a low value/big wattage serie resistor.

-10% on the heater and you are reaching "minimum rating" some says tubes sound better and last longer this way.

I decided to take down my MIG50 when i saw the 220v (under 230v)PT giving 570v to the plates it didn't sound better though.

It's true that I haven't tested the mains voltage recently - I just assumed it was 220 ...

You could also always use a step up transformer. See if there is enough difference to care.

I'd check your wall voltage at different times of the day, it varies in the US. Phil
