Power tube resistor to ground

Post by AcornHouse »

Looking at the layout of the Triode Express kit, it uses a 1ohm 2w resistor from pins 1 and 8 to ground from the power tubes. TAG layout just has a bare wire to do the same thing.
Is there an advantage or disadvantage to using the resistor?

Adding a 1R resistor there is a very common mod to make measuring idle current in each tube easy. You measure voltage at pin 8, and since 1A over 1 Ohm = 1V, the voltage you read is numerically equivalent to the amperage. Accordingly, if you see 40mV (0.040V) that means the current is 40mA (0.040A).

It states all this on the bottom of the Triodestore layout. The one posted by me in the files section was cropped to show only the layout.
