Re: My Latest #102 Build
The cap is held with hot glue. I cut a small piece of glue stick and then using a hot air gun, I preheat the chassis to the point where the glue starts to melt when I touch the glue to the metal. Once I get to this point I continue to heat the glue and metal with the hot air gun until fully molten and then press the cap into the glue.Synchu wrote:Works here as well.

I have found that unless the metal is preheated, the glue will not stick to the aluminum chassis.

Dumble would have used silicone adhesive, though, no?

Re: My Latest #102 Build
No sure to be honest, I have tried silicon based adhesives and I have not found any that really stick that well to aluminum. Them seem to like to release over time.martin manning wrote:Dumble would have used silicone adhesive, though, no?
Two part epoxy actually might be a potential solution as well.
But at this point the preheat process has worked well for me.

Re: My Latest #102 Build
Very sweet indeed! I like that mounting trick as well. epoxy or JB weld may in fact be a solution - I'm not particularly smart on what works with what or what melts what, so thanks for the shared experience on silicone too -

Re: My Latest #102 Build
Hey Gary,
Great tip on the mounting.
I learned that silicon based ones do not work the hard way. Had an F&T RC filter mounted that way in couple of hi-fi monoblocks I did. One stays and the other didn't.
But certainly doesn't work quite well, or at least the one I am using. I didn't use any since then, but I am sure back to hot glue.
Thanks,
Niki
