kt 150
just stumbled over new sensor kt 150
70 Watts plate dissipation
the heater needs 2 A
jazzed about the shape of the envelope
I think there's a tung sol labeling too
can't wait to try a pair out

Got any plans for one Andy? Single Ended mayhem? Push pull Tesla coil?

Fast and bulbous! Bulbous I said, and tapered too!
The hi fi nuts have been alternately fawning over these and rejecting them on Audio Asylum. One wag says "a solution in search of a problem." One of these days I'll have to get a pair to try out. Is there a source other than "no discounts" New Sensor?

I've been farting around with a notion...
Simple P-P, BIG IRON... I figure 100w but simple vintage volume and tone.
I've got an old JBL E-120, 1-12 combo, along those lines...

"a solution in search of a problem."
love it... way too much fun, a tube is a tube, always dig the way huge dissipation... lol.

I have done some KT150 tests during the last year published here http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-va ... kt120.html
Re: kt 150
matt, would you mind updating me on the driver demands mentioned?the rather ridiculous (and finicky) driver demands pretty much mean if you're expecting them to perform like a pair of 6550's, you're going to need to throw in a big/ballsy enough dedicated driver stage
Thanks

Found out the hard way some 30 years back, one sure fire method to wreck a nice JBL 12 is slam a 100W amp thru it at full rip. Share the power across 2 speakers at least. Saw Dicky Betts awhile back, 100W Marshall & JBL loaded 4x12. Sounded sweet as could be and not much chance of wrecking a speaker.
Matt h's suggestion on a proper drive stage is excellent advice. You could follow the usual Fender/Marshall style inverter with a pair of pokey triodes, 12AU7 or 6SN7 for instance. I reckon the '150 would make a dandy bass amp tube.
es345 thanks for the link and the research! I had a brief look, will have to read in depth later.

Hmmm - Soon. ish. Got a lot on the go right now.
Bon chance with those bad boys.

Very interesting reading through all the threads and links, thank you.es345 wrote:I have done some KT150 tests during the last year published here http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-va ... kt120.html
I run the KT120 tubes for MI amp but I want to get a PT that has separate plate and screen supply so I keep the screen voltage safely lower. More experimenting needed on my part but I'm not technically inclined like you.

Re: kt 150
I think that the 6550 has the same limiting value on that?the 50k max grid leak for fixed bias is a red flag to me
I remember someone putting forward the idea that the grid resistance limiting value is most pertinent at max plate dissipation.
Such that as the plate dissipation is reduced, the grid resistance can be increased.
The KT88 info sheet seems to comply with that rationale http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/fran ... k/KT88.pdf
I think that the 'typical operating conditions' of the tube info sheets were often based on separate supplies from the same PT winding, achieved by having a cap input filter after the plate supply rectifier, and a choke input filter after the screen supply rectifier (which might only be half wave rectified). Thereby giving good regulation on the screen supply, where it's most beneficial.I want to get a PT that has separate plate and screen supply so I keep the screen voltage safely lower
