Mesa 3CH Dual Recto PT specs

Post by baklavametal »

Hi!
I was wondering if anybody here knows/has specifications for Mesa DR power transformer.
I live in europe and have bought an used DR which was made for USA, so it works on 110V. Right now i'm using a step-down transformer to get the necessary voltage, but i would like to put a 230V PT so i don't have to worry if someone will plug it directly into the 230V wall-wart and make the amp go poof!

I was looking for Mercury Magetics replacement PTs, but they are way over my price range. I have found a small company here in Croatia which winds transformers of all kinds so i would get them to make it, but i need voltage and current specs of all primary and secondary windings.

Your help is very much appreciated
Cheers!

Read this on DIY forum maybe you could talk to Pro Audio Supplies about get the correct 230v PT for your amp:

So I emailed Mesa and got their reply;

Hello there,

That warning is in case you use an incorrect step down transformer and
damage your amp, in that case we are not liable. The only issue you may
notice is that when using a correct step down transformer, you may
notice that the amp hums. This is completely normal. If you wanted to
look into converting your amp to your voltage I'd recommend contacting
our distributor:

Use a step down transformer to power up your amp. Then you (or someone who knows how) can take readings to see the voltage and current flow. With that information, your winder should be able to make you a transformer. Just remember, whoever is writing the spec, current and voltage are different when at idle and at full tilt. Your winder needs both sets of specs or at least needs to estimate full tilt spec based on the tubes in use.

There should be a Mesa part number on the transformer. If you post it here, it might help track down that info.

Your concern about plugging it in wrong can be changed by retaining the power cable to the amp and then replacing the male end on that cable with a female end and visa versa on the cable coming off the step down transformer.

I've got a Mesa PT for the Dual Rec (561140). If you look at the amp schematics online, it will show you what the different color taps are for.
