double and single turrets, Whats the differences?

Post by dragonbat13 »

What are the differences between double turrets and single turrets like those
on the turretboards website? I have seen the two sided boards that allow components to be mounted on both sides but the ones on the site are different than that. Thanks.

I thought it refers to the id of the upper turret hole, double is bigger, but looking at the description on turretboards.com it's not clear. I buy only his boards with what he calls double turrets, and these are tubular all the way thru, so you can mount the components on top and the lead outs from the underside of the board, all very clean and proper Hiwatt-style!

you can place more compnents on the double level turrets, for a higher component density. if they are thru hole. the double level will also allow larger gauge leads/wires to go thru, or a greater number of leads/wires.

and in some cases, double level turrets can allow you to not derate your components for temperature. you can hang them in the air.

I purchased my turrets from Mouser. I selected the ones that had the largest inside diameter and with the second lip. (I don't have the part number handy.) But they have worked well for me.
