effects amp

Post by Ed de Jager »

Hi,i am thinking about building an amp expecially for time effects because i don`t really want to change the basic tones i get from the Dlite.
I have an old Sovtec amp laying around doing nothing i`d like to use for this project which will be a basic Fender preamp, dumbleator, passive effectsloop,PI,PP5881 Poweramp.
Has anyone done this before and how did it work out?

Thanks in advance,Ed

Ed,
I have 2 Tech 21 Power Engines. They are 60 watt solid state amps with no preamps(or very simple ones). They have volume, treble, middle, and bass controls + 1/4" and XLR ins - and 1 XLR out. I use them for effects only and run my tube amps Dry. I love the 3 dimensional sound of dry main amp and effected satellites. I put a passive loop in my D'Lite and the send jack does not interrupt the signal to the power tubes. So, one 1/4" cable from the D'Lite to my effects and mono or stereo outs back 1 or 2 Power Engines. I am sure a simple tube amp satellite would function as well. See this: http://www.tech21nyc.com/pe60.html

Hi Stelligan, good to hear it is working for you.
I am using the Sovtec because that`s what i have laying around
With build-in loops and the use of time effects i am very often missing something in the attack of a note that i want to keep in the sound so if this solves that problem i am a happy guy.
