Tube ID help please?

Post by Reeltarded »

Have remarked International Servicemaster tubes made in England. Grey plates three holes and flying saucer getters.

922-14 from sample.

Ehhh?

Also looking at these Brimars marked all ECC83/C or no slash and c off to the right. No etching. Looks like Mullard guts. No GB only MI England.

No etching makes me thing not Mullard. The construction matches B coded Mullards. 3 ribbed boxes.

IIRC, only Brimar marked "England", otherwise it would say "Great Britain." I believe Mullard was reliable in etching the glass, so we can probably rule that out.

As we all know, stencil markings for country of origin is unreliable as even the good manufacturers marked their tubes as originating where they did not. This might put in play Amperex and others, but I don't know.

Those two pictures are different tubes, are they not? What is the tube type on the mystery tube? EL84? We need to look for reliable pictures to compare if no one here is able to do it by eyeball method.

I think the first is a Russian tube. I have some of the same type, except labeled 'Made in England' from El Menco. The giveaway is that they have flying saucer getters.

Research (intertoobs) tell me that they likely are the 6p14P type. When I had a SE EL84, I tested them - nothing exciting, but held up well. I liked my other EL84/6BQ5 singles in my stash better.

Hope that helps. I might be able to get pictures of mine, if my camera isn't on the fritz.

edit - to clarify which tube I was talking about. I need to drink more coffee before I post.

the square holes in first one reminds me of a Telam, but I have never seen any flying saucers in those, yet.

Could be an EL84, but could be all sorts of things.

Thanks for playing toob sniff. I examined them very closely comparing to other samples online. I think you are right about the Russian origin of the first tube there, Mr. Phil. The Brimar marked are a little more confusing. I have two different marking styles. There is a ECC83/C, and an ECC83 c.

I am going to toss them in a tube tester today and crank that tube tester to 10. That amp is frisky like an Express on crack. All pf the Brimar marked tubes are virtually inert when thumped and/or bounced accidently off a wood floor. Oops. The glass produces no ping. Easier to look at in the sunlight probably.

Patrick, I also found an El-Menco marked tube in a white box.

Thanks!!
